Liv's First Shopping Haul

After a two week break caring for mom's needs,  I'm back into the swing of things on both my Etsy Shop and Blog! I've been busy getting the last haul up on line and planning the next shopping trip! Its been nearly 3 weeks since Liv and I were out and about picking.

Our favorite things we found on the trip were these Fire King Relish Trays made of milk glass with a gold rim. Mom had two of these and used them faithfully during the holiday season or special occasions. She told me that she got them both at a local gas station. They were given away when your punch card got to 5 gas tank fills....hahahaha. I always found that funny and Liv does too. I have one of mom's two in my cupboard, and it will be there forever until I hand it down to the next generation. I use it faithfully during the holiday season too. When I spotted these two on the shelf, Liv was right behind me and saw them almost at the same time I did. "Grandma, your dish and there are two of them"!

Fire King Relish Tray - 1960's

The second piece was picked by Liv, and since I've sold Avon for nearly 10 years. She purchased it  for her section of the shop. It is also the inspiration for my last blog I posted about my mom. The piece is called "A Mother's Love", and was made in 1981 exclusively for Avon. Its in perfect shape, dated and has the maker's stamp on it. Liv loves it, and so do I.

A Mother's Touch - made for Avon 1981

The third piece we want to show you is a fun one. Its a Emerald Green Glass Vase for fresh cut flowers. At one time it did have a clear glass froggy to place in the top opening, but these rarely survived if ever. You place the fresh cut flower into one of holes in the froggy to create your floral center piece for your table. Its in great shape, with one small chip on the underside of the top rim. It has worn smooth with time. I'm sure that this piece came from the 1940's and the A.R.L. Company continued to make them well into the 1960's.

Fresh Flower Floral Vase - 1940's

This final piece brings back lots of memories for me. I lived around the corner from the town florist and remember seeing these in many animal shapes, sizes, and color combo's in his store front downtown. Many a day his daughter, Lori,  and I would walk downtown to visit our dad's at work,  these vases fascinated me. Its a nursery planter from the 1950's. These were so popular back then and rarely did you not see one in yours, a family members or friends home. When the new baby arrived, these were sent out with a  fresh floral arrangement stuck in the "green foam" from the florist.  After the flowers died, they often had live ivy plants placed in them for baby's room.

Liv and I had fun picking, and hope you enjoyed seeing the things we purchased for the shop.

Setting the Table

So you've been given the task of setting the wedding party table at the reception. What can you do to make it memorable? One of the latest trends is to use vintage China, dinnerware and glass. Not sure where this idea originated, but I love it. No doubt it was a awesome wedding planner, and who ever it was, I solute you! Depending on the bride and her tastes they are buying up every thing from miss matched china pieces to full matching sets of vintage china, stoneware, and glass. Many of these items are being found in thrift stores every where.  The brides are not forgetting to pick up serving sets as well, such as butter dishes, salt and pepper sets, gravy boats, platters, serving bowls and candle stick holders. When the party is over, the china is taken, cleaned up and presented to the bride and groom as a wedding present.
